1. FSB – Federal Security Service (similar to counter-terrorism and counter-intelligence divisions of the FBI)

 

  •  “Alfa” – Counter-terror/hostage rescue unit with detachments in Moscow, Krasnodar, Khabarovsk, Ekaterinburg, Nizhni Novgorod. This unit is composed of FSB commissioned officers. Formerly KGB counter-terror assault unit.

  • “Vympel” aka “Pennant” or “Vega”– Counter-sabotage unit specializing in protecting nuclear reactors. Formerly KGB unit charged with conducting sabotage in foreign countries.?

  • “Sigma” – Special operations unit of the Border Troops.

  • “Zenith” – Possible codename for FSB unit assigned to kill or capture Chechen rebel leaders.

  • “Message” – Another possible codename for FSB unit assigned to kill or capture Chechen rebel leaders.

  • “Cascade” aka “Kaskad” – Another possible FSB unit operating in Chechnya, formerly KGB unit specializing in electronic warfareRegional Department of Spetsnaz.

  • “ROSN” – Regional special operations units similar to FBI Field Office SWAT teams.Prison Service

  • “Torch” aka “Fakel” – Anit-riot special response unitSVR – Foreign Intelligence Service (similar to CIA)?

  • VV – Internal Troops – Similar to a full-time National Guard unit with domestic security mission and few heavy weapons.

  • 20th OSN (they have no name yet) - Saratov

  • 21st OSN "Typhoon" - city of Khabarovsk

  • Devyatoe upravlenie 9th devision- the famous Devyatka - Secret Service of Russia -close VIP protection of Kremlin Habitants - the most famous representative - general A.Korjakov, head of 9th and head president Elzin bodyguard.

  • SVR - Slujba Vneshnej Razvedki - foreigh surveilance service - intellegance on service of foreighn ministry - most famous ex. prime minister E.Primakov - was a head of svr for long time
